For the sound installation LABYRINTH about 40 old windows from two houses in Poschiavo – Casa Bondietti and Casa Jochum – are constructed into two intertwined spirals. The wings are closed, the hinges are tied to each other with flower wire. The installation has a high degree of stability through its spiral shape although the ligaments are minimal and punctual. Between the spirals a path evolves that leads in several rounds from the outside to the inside where it turns and leads parallel to the outside at the opposite end of the installation.
This is the typical for the double spiral – it is walkable, the way is never the same, the movement proceeds spirally in large juvenescent curves to the center where it pauses, turns and regains magnitude leading out of the labyrinth.
Four sound sources emanate tape recordings of piano playing, subtle rush of a mountains rivulet and spring birds’ voices. The acoustic impression changes according to the position within the double spiral.
Für die Klanginstallation LABYRINTH werden rund 40 alte Fenster aus zwei Häusern von Poschiavo – Casa Bondietti und Casa Jochum – zu zwei ineinander verschlungenen Spiralen zusammengebaut. Die Fensterflügel sind geschlossen, die Fensterscharniere werden mit etwas Blumendraht aneinander befestigt. Durch ihre Spiralform erhält die Installation ein hohes Mass an Stabilität, obwohl die Verbindungen minimal und punktuell sind. Zwischen den beiden Spiralen entsteht ein Weg, der von Aussen in mehreren Runden nach Innen führt, dort sich wendet und parallel verlaufend nach Aussen zum anderen Ende der Installation führt.
Das ist das Charakteristische der Doppelspirale – sie ist begehbar, der Weg ist nie derselbe, die Bewegung verläuft spiralig in weiten Bögen sich verengend zur Mitte hin, wo sie innehält, sich dreht und an Umfang zunehmend aus dem Labyrinth führt.
Vier Klangquellen geben Tonbandaufnahmen von Klavierspiel, subtilem Rauschen eines Bergbaches und frühlingsintensivem Vogelgesang wieder. Der akustische Eindruck variiert je nach Position innerhalb der Doppelspirale.
Per l’istallazione sonora LABIRINTO 40 finestre vecchie proveniente da due case di Poschiavo – Casa Bondietti e Casa Jochum – formano due spirali intrecciate. Le ali sono chiuse e le cerniere collegate con un filo per fiori. Grazie alla forma della spirale l’istallazione dispone da una grande stabilità, benché i collegamenti sono minimi e puntuali. Tra le due spirali, un sentiero si è creato che porta dall’esterno all’interno in diversi giri, si rivolge e guida parallelamente verso l’esterno all’opposta fine dell’istallazione.
Questo è il caratteristico della spirale doppia – è percorribile, il sentiero non è mai lo stesso, il movimento procede spiralmente formando archi larghi che diminuiscono verso il centro, dove si ferma, si gira e ingrandendo porta verso l’uscita del labirinto.
Quattro sorgenti sonore riproducono un brano del piano, il fruscio di un ruscello di montagna e canti degli uccelli in primavera. L’impressione acustica varia secondo la posizione nella spirale doppia.
